2017-10-10

Description:

  • The fault code P0791 indicates that there is an issue with the performance of the intermediate shaft speed sensor circuit. This may cause the transmission to shift erratically or not at all.

Possible Symptoms:

  • Erratic or delayed shifting

  • Harsh or sudden shifting

  • Transmission slipping

  • Illuminated check engine light

Possible Causes:

  • Failed intermediate shaft speed sensor

  • Faulty wiring or connections in the circuit

  • Loose or corroded electrical connections

  • Failed transmission control module (TCM)

Related Parts:

  • Shaft Speed Sensor: Shaft Speed Sensor monitors the speed with which the gear shaft is rotated. Problem leads to reduced performance, poor acceleration

Possible Solutions:

  • Replace the intermediate shaft speed sensor

  • Check and repair any damaged wiring or connections

  • Tighten or clean any loose or corroded electrical connections

  • Replace the transmission control module (TCM) if necessary
