P0553

2017-10-10

Description:

  • The fault code P0553 indicates that there is a high input signal in the power steering pressure sensor circuit. This may result in poor braking performance and difficulty in stopping the vehicle.

Possible Symptoms:

  • Engine misfires or runs rough, especially at idle or under load

  • Decreased engine performance or power

  • Poor fuel efficiency

  • Check Engine Light (CEL) illuminated

Possible Causes:

  • Faulty power steering pressure sensor

  • Open or short circuit in the power steering pressure sensor circuit

  • Poor electrical connection in the power steering pressure sensor circuit

  • Faulty power steering control module

  • Faulty engine control module (ECM)

Related Parts:

  • Power Steering Pressure Sensor: This sensor monitors the hydraulic fluid pressure in the steering system. Problems in this sensor lead to hard steering

Possible Solutions:

  • Test and replace the faulty ignition coil in cylinder 10, if necessary

  • Replace the spark plug in cylinder 10 if it is worn, fouled, or damaged

  • Clean or replace the fuel injector in cylinder 10 if it is clogged or malfunctioning

  • Perform a compression test to check for low compression in cylinder 10 and repair as needed

  • Test and replace the engine control module (ECM) if it is determined to be faulty
