P0434

2017-10-10

Description:

  • The fault code P0434 indicates that there is an issue with the circuit that controls the temperature sensor for the catalyst in bank 2. This may cause the engine to run poorly or not start at all.

Possible Symptoms:

  • Illuminated check engine light

  • Reduced engine power or acceleration

  • Increased emissions output

Possible Causes:

  • Failed O2 sensor

  • Faulty wiring or connections in the circuit

  • Exhaust air leak upstream of the catalytic converter

  • Failed engine control module (ECM)

Related Parts:

  • Catalyst Temperature Sensor: A catalyst is a chemical substance that takes the exhaust gas stream from the engine and converts toxic gases and pollutants to less harmful pollutants. The function of the catalyst temperature sensor is to warn the car computer if temperature of the catalyst goes above the safe limit. Problems lead to harmful emissions out of limit

Possible Solutions:

  • Replace the faulty catalytic converter

  • Replacing the faulty O2 sensor

  • Tighten or clean any loose or corroded electrical connections

  • Repairing the Exhaust leak upstream of the catalytic converter

  • Replace the engine control module (ECM) if necessary
