P0072

2017-10-10

Description:

  • The fault code P0072 indicates that there is an issue with the ambient air temperature sensor circuit, where the input signal is too low compared to the expected value. This sensor is responsible for measuring the temperature of the air outside of the vehicle. A malfunctioning sensor can result in inaccurate readings affecting engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions.

Possible Symptoms:

  • Illuminated check engine light

  • Inaccurate temperature readings displayed by the vehicle

  • Reduced fuel efficiency

  • Poor engine performance and acceleration.

Possible Causes:

  • A faulty ambient air temperature sensor

  • Short circuit or damage on the wiring of the sensor

  • Corroded or poor electrical connections

  • Failed engine control module (ECM)

Related Parts:

  • Ambient Air Temperature Sensor: This is usually located in the air inlet. It measures the outside air temperature. Problems here lead to engine stalling, lack of power and a noisy engine

Possible Solutions:

  • Replace the ambient air temperature sensor

  • Check and repair any damaged wiring or connections

  • Clean any corroded electrical connections

  • Replace the engine control module (ECM) if necessary
